Role: Senior Energy & Carbon Engineer

We have an exciting new role for a Senior Energy & Carbon Engineer to work onsite with our client, a Multinational Manufacturing site (located near Navan on the Cavan border). The company is a fantastic employer and offers real career advancement opportunities.

There are massive projects in the pipeline to further upgrade the plant, to make it more sustainable and eventually carbon neutral. The Conversion of a massive gas-powered dryer to an electric dryer is one example. There is full commitment to a sustainable future and although the plant is ‘old’ the investment and finances are in place to convert it into a modern carbon-neutral business.

Summary of role

The Energy engineer will:
  • Project Manage key initiatives as part of the transformation plan
  • Energy management of the Navan Manufacturing Site – Gas and electricity
  • ISO50001 and the management of the plant WCM Energy pillar Board
  • Develop, Maintain, and Progress the “will be” Roadmap to Carbon Neutral for the site showing milestones and metrics on Energy, CO2, and Investment Cost
  • Develop and be a key deliverer of site-wide CO2 Awareness and Culture Program

Detailed Job Description:
  • Liaison with Regional and Group Technical Experts to identify quantify and prioritise technical opportunities for improvement on the site.
  • Design and implement ongoing improvements in metering, monitoring, and reporting to improve the understanding and control of energy and CO2 impact.
  • Design and Execute Energy and CO2 forecasting models to assist in budgeting and planning.
  • Oversee ISO50001 Activities and system development.
  • Lead Site Industrial Efficiency pillar
  • Identify and intervene where necessary in Energy and Carbon impacting activities and change management to ensure continuous progress towards the Sites Carbon Neutral Ambition.
  • Lead diverse and cross-functional teams in selected delivering critical Carbon neutral projects.
  • Provide Verified and Valid Energy and CO2 Data in the format required to all Internal and External Stakeholders.
  • WCM Continuous Improvement Methodology, ISO50001 Methodology, RS Matrix monitoring Scada Network.
  • Auditing and combustion analysis of Gas Systems to ensure the safety of equipment in maintenance and operation.
  • Definition of short-term operational targets to colleagues and peers to deliver the overarching roadmap.
  • Routine (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, annually) automated and manual reporting of correct Energy and CO2 data to all internal, SG, and external stakeholders against the target.
  • Identification and Proposal of Studies and Projects to improve the Energy and CO2 performance of the site.
  • Reporting on the progress of all energy improvement activities
  • Gas systems management
  • Identifying areas for improvement in the current plant environment
  • Ensuring the plant meets its carbon-neutral goal via the WCM route map

What’s required to be successful in this exciting new role
  • Third Level in Science or Engineering discipline. (Energy/Carbon)
  • Extensive carbon reduction Engineering experience
  • Certification/qualification in Energy / CO2 management.
  • Project Management experience (full life cycle)
  • Strong understanding of carbon accounting and governance processes
  • Robust knowledge of carbon management systems and standards
  • Strong project development capabilities for complex, large-scale projects
  • Knowledge of innovative carbon reduction technologies
